Hatha Slow Flow
This slow-paced class, inspired by the teachings of yoga master, T.K.V. Desikachar, combines slow mindful flow with traditional Hatha Yoga postures.
Let your whole body flow in this energizing and feel good class. Hydrate joints and fascia, promote blood flow, move stagnant energy, and strengthen the body in all the right places with this dynamic yoga class. You’ll have ample time to explore movement and breath. Desikachar stated that the success of yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and relationships. It is based on the principles of finding suitable adaptations and modifications in poses, with a strong focus to suit the individual student and their pursuit.
What is Hatha / Slow Flow Yoga?
Hatha yoga focuses on yoga postures and breathing techniques traditionally practiced to channel life force or prana. Hatha means to balance or harmonize body, mind, and breath. It is typically practised more slowly and with more static holds than faster flow classes, and each movement is linked to breath. This practice will promote grounding and calmness, and encourage mindful observation.
In a slow flow class, the pace is meditative and intentional, emphasizing mindful movement. We hold poses longer, taking several rounds of breath in each pose, and transition slower between postures (compared to Vinyasa). This style usually provides poses that range from gentle to challenging, but done with stable, focused energy. Through regular practice focus, willpower, mind-body awareness, and confidence are improved as we overcome the mental obstacles of our practice. On a subtle level yoga works therapeutically to clear obstacles in the energy channels in the body.
Our framework is based on functional and accessible practices with elements of yoga therapy and a focus on spine safety. Yoga therapy is a whole-body approach to better health by using the tools of yoga to meet specific physical, mental and emotional needs and goals. A spine-safe approach ensures that the spine gets the movement it needs to stay healthy and modifying postures that might be unsafe or injurious for some. A functional approach accommodates skeletal variations and focuses on accessible postures for all.
Through our inclusive and accessible classes, we hold space for students in their entirety and allow them to nurture and heal themselves. Learning to work WITH our unique bodies and modifying our practice to celebrate our uniqueness is what we are all about.
“However powerful or disturbing something may appear to be, it is our reaction to it that determines its effects.”
Whether you are a novice or experienced yogi, this class welcomes practitioners at all stages of their journey. Modifications and variations of postures will be available, however, this class might not be suitable if weight-bearing postures aren’t possible for you.
