Hatha Yoga - Joints & Bones
A healing Hatha yoga class strengthening bones, improving joint mobility and function, and increasing circulation.
Practiced at a slower pace with time given to focus on breath and sensation and options to rest. Modifications and variations of postures will be available to suit all levels. Some but minimal weight-bearing postures are included with a focus on the Joint-Freeing Series based on structural yoga therapy by Mukunda Stiles. The joint-freeing series relieves joint pain and stiffness, improves mobility, increases circulation, and promotes bone health and vitality. Regardless of flexibility, this class is gentle and suitable for all, including beginners, aging yogis, those with limited mobility or in recovery, or experienced practitioners looking for a softer approach to their yoga practice.
What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha yoga focuses on yoga postures and breathing techniques traditionally practiced to channel life force or prana. Hatha means to balance or harmonize body, mind, and breath. It is typically practised more slowly and with more static holds than faster flow classes, and each movement is linked to breath. This practice will promote grounding and calmness, and encourage mindful observation.
Our framework is based on functional and accessible practices with elements of yoga therapy and a focus on spine safety. Yoga therapy is a whole-body approach to better health by using the tools of yoga to meet specific physical, mental and emotional needs and goals. A spine-safe approach ensures that the spine gets the movement it needs to stay healthy and modifying postures that might be unsafe or injurious for some. A functional approach accommodates skeletal variations and focuses on accessible postures for all.
Through our inclusive and accessible classes, we hold space for students in their entirety and allow them to nurture and heal themselves. Learning to work WITH our unique bodies and modifying our practice to celebrate our uniqueness is what we are all about.
We don't use the body to get into a pose. We use the pose to get into the body.
Open to all regardless of experience level.
